Discovering California and its wines

Enjoying wine in Napa Valley

In search of new ideas, our cellar master Annika went on an adventure trip across California for the past few days. After landing in Los Angeles, she travelled via Vista, Tulare, Paso Robles, and Watsonville to Napa Valley, probably the most famous winemaking region in the US. From there, excursions led to Sonoma Valley and the Russian River. At a pleasant 25 degrees, she was inspired by the colorful diversity of Californian wine and its producers. Back in Austria, she not only has new ideas, but also a few bottles of wine in her luggage.

High-tech winery and backyard vintner

Together with a few colleagues, Annika visited exquisite wineries that vinify their wines with great passion, dedication and attention to detail, and present them with sincere enthusiasm. Conversations with producers and sommeliers on site have shown how important it is to think outside the box.

"The diversity of wines and wineries in the American West was incredibly impressive. I met everyone from high-tech wineries to backyard vintners, and even discovered my new favorite Californian wine in the small barn of Ryan Stirm's winery. I'm really looking forward to incorporating all the new impressions into my work at Weingut Förthof," smiles the sun-tanned cellar master, reminiscing about the sunny days in the USA.
